Kelowna Chevrolet is committed to providing you with the best Chevrolet buying experience, regardless of where you call home. As a client that is from out of town, you most likely have some questions about how this could effect your purchase. To help you make the most informed decision, we have detailed what you can expect from Kelowna Chevrolet as an out of town client. If there are any questions you still have after having a read through this page, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us for a quick answer.

Here are some of the common questions customers just like you have had regarding this process:

The answer to this question is simple. Regardless of where you buy, you pay the same tax rate as where you live, not the tax of the province where you buy. If you reside outide of BC we only have to charge GST provided that you meet the following criteria:

  1. The Customer completes and signs a form FIN 440 (provided by us)
  2. We, the seller are responsible for obtaining the identification necessary (photo copy) to ensure that an individual purchasing a vehicle is not a B.C. Resident. We must have two pieces of ID as proof of residency. Acceptable forms of ID are as follows:
  • Out of province Driver's License
  • Out of province Medical plan card
  • Utility bill showing the address of service.
  • Vehicle registration. We cannot accept the vehicle registration and driver's License together as it does not prove residency
  • NOTE... credit cards, social insurance cards or birth certificates are not acceptable identification.

If your province of residence has HST, such as Ontario, we then have two options:

  1. You are only charged GST and you have to pay the remainder of your sales tax when you register your vehicle at home.
  2. If you live in a province with HST, we can also charge you the full amount here so that you don't have any new bills when you get home

Many of our clients choose to have their vehicle shipped to them. Over the years we have shortlisted some outstanding, trusted partners that will assure your vehicle arrives on time.

Before your vehicle leaves our store, you will be sent a final walk through video so you have something to look at while your vehicle is in transit. Our Sales Administration and management teams will ensure that you stay well informed during this entire process.

I have never bought a vehicle without seeing it how do I know that it is in fact in good condition?

With our convenient and Central Okanagan Location, we can provide you with all of the information that you will need to make a purchase decision. Car Proof or ICBC accident report, mechanical report, and a full personalized video of the vehicle you are looking to purchase.

What if my vehicle is damaged during shipping?

Our shipping partners are fully insured and any new damages found after transport will be rectified. Your Sales Consultant will send you a final video walk around on your vehicle after it has been detailed and before delivery so you have record of the condition before it leaves our dealership. Our shipping partners are just that, partners, and we work together to ensure that you, our mutual client, are taken care of.

Do I have to get an inspection on my car once it arrives?

If your new vehicle is a pre-owned vehicle and is being shipped outside of B.C. to another Province then yes, it will have to have an out of province inspection. This low cost inspection is a formality to ensure that the vehicle you are bringing in meets the requirements of your province. Our reconditioning standards mean that the vehicle that you are purchasing will meet the requirements of your home Province. You will also receive via email, the service inspection on this vehicle and the printed copies will arrive with the vehicle as well.

What does Certified mean and what does it get me?

All major manufacturers have now committed to the re-marketing of their respective brands. For Chevrolet it means attractive pricing, offering competitive sub-vented finance rates, warranty options, and confidence of our stringent inspection and reconditioning standards.

What kind of finance rate would I get?

We work with a number of financial institutions to ensure that we get you the most competitive rate for the vehicle you are purchasing. A number of factors can affect what rate we can get. What kind of guarantee or warranty do I get?

Depending on the vehicle that you are purchasing there may or may not be any remaining manufacturer's warranty. For added peace of mind we offer and can tailor a warranty to your specific driving needs. Our Sales Consultants and Financial Services managers will work with you to ensure you are getting the proper and adequate coverage for your new vehicle.

Do you offer protection packages or 3M?

Yes, as a full service dealership we offer many products intended to protect your new investment. 3M, Rust proofing, undercoat, Paint Protection, leather and vinyl protection and window tint are all items offered through our dealership. These items can also be added to any finance or lease contracts.
